"Your Health Is Your Wealth "

1) What is Hep B?
It is a disease of the liver caused by a virus that resides in body fluids (blood, semen and vaginal fluids)

2) Are there symptoms of Hep B?
A good number of infected individuals do not have any symptoms.
The common symptoms are:
  • Fever
  • Intense fatigue
  • Yellow eyes and skin; medically termed Jaundice.
  • Anorexia (loss of appetite)
  • Joint aches
  • Abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.
  • Darkly colored urine/ lightly colored stools.

Certain individuals demonstrate no symptoms yet they still pass on the Hep B virus to others

3.How bad is Hep B?
Very good question!

Hep B can be very live-threatening. 💀💀💀💀

Some individuals are unaware they got the disease. Nevertheless they still can infect someone else during Sex.
Here's the good part 👉 Most persons who get infected with Hep B get well.
On the other hand, in some persons the disease goes into the Chronic stage (chronic Hepatitis B) and the virus remains within their bodies for life.

Chronic Hepatitis B can easily damage the liver and result in Liver Cancer 💀💀💀💀💀

4) How is Hep B gotten?
Anyone can get infected with Hep B.
It is gotten through the following ways.

  • Unprotected vaginal or anal sex with someone who has the Hep B virus.
  • Sharing of needless(tattoo needles, syringes, piercing needles)
  • Contact between the broken skin(cut or wound) of a healthy individual and the broken skin of an infected individual.
  • Sharing of combs, razors, toothbrushes etc. Or any object that can wound the skin, with an infected individual.

Did you know that Hepatitis B virus is 100 times more infectious than HIV? Yes it actually is.

Persons at greater risks are.
Persons who have sex without a condom
("playing football without socks")-Hep B is easily transmitted during sexual intercourse.
✔Newborn babies-an infected mother can easily pass it on to her baby during parturition(Birth).
✔Persons who work in the health sector or live in close contact with individuals having Chronic Hepatitis B.
5) how can you know if you have it?
✔Get Tested.
If you suspect that you have been exposed to Hep B, visit a hospital or Clinic and do a simple blood test to know if you presently have Hep B or if you havehad it in the past. Test can also verify if the virus is still in your blood.
Should it be that you have chronic Hepatitis B, the doctor will decide when and wether you need treatment.

How can You protect yourself against this big thread.?
Get vaccinated - there exist a vaccine against Hep B that protects you from getting the disease.  It is usually administered 3 times over several months in order to be protected.
✔All individuals from 0-18 years should get the vaccine.  It is safe for infants, children and adults.
✔In case you're exposed to Hep B and you're not yet vaccinated, getting the vaccine immediately will help in protecting you from Hep B.

If you are vaccinated,
Always use a condom during sex.
✔Avoid sharing needles.
✔Get tested immediately you become pregnant  (for the females)

AVOID THE USE OF DRUGS, including excessive consumption of alcohol.
WHEN YOU ARE HIGH, YOU WILL PROBABLY FORGET TO PROTECT YOURSELF.

HEPATITIS AND PREGNANCY
✔All pregnant women need to get tested for Hep B.
✔Babies born to women who are infected with Hep B are at greater risks of getting chronic Hepatitis B.
✔If a newborn baby receives the appropriate treatment within 12 hours after birth,  there's a very big chance the baby won't get Hep B.
✔Mothers with Hep B can still breastfeed their babies.
